Selah Sue, the surprising new face on the music scene is doing really interesting things with the genres of soul, R & B and reggae whilst incorporating the acoustic guitar. She did her "Fear nothing" song (issued from Reason album) "for the first time on stage" and mixed her both albums to let young and older people spend a splendid sunny night at La Rochelle. Selah gave her best and people agreed to every move she did. I had chance to meet friendly people around but some other youngest were some kind of unrespectful -this is festivals-.Ĭoming back to Selah show, it was a big show like a festival can allow. I was not so close to the center of the stage as usually -although being in the first row-, which did not me allow to enjoy the show 100%. That gives something more soul to the event. It's the first time I attended a Selah concert with both of her chorists on stage. Selah came after 9pm with a one-hour set, which is some kind of reduced compared to usual setlists. Naâman came after with some white fresh reggae, then The Dô enjoyed themselves and a young crowd at the first rows also. It was really hot outside and the crowd had to wait for Selah to start her own concert with 3 other shows: Fakear, a friendly french young electro-guy, who gave his mixes while Selah was watching at him attentively backstage. 1 on the Belgium Albums Chart and featured the hit singles “This World”, “Crazy Vibes” and the Cee Lo Green collaboration “Please”. The singer songwriter released her eponymously-titled debut album on March 4, 2011. Selah Sue released her second EP “Raggamuffin” in October 2010, followed by a support appearance for Prince on his Sportpaleis tour. In 2010 she hit the major festival circuit in Belgium playing Les Nuits Botaniques, Les Ardentes and Dour Festival among others. #SELAH SUE ALBUM RELEASE TV#The singer has regularly appeared on the dutch TV show “De Wereld Draait Door” and a number Flemish shows. In January 2009 Selah Sue released her debut EP “Black Part Love” and was supported by a Belgian musical theatre programme Ancienne Belgique, designed for promising acts without labels or management. It took virtually no time at all for the talented singer to be raising eyebrows at just 17 Universal offered her a singing contract although the songwriter turned it down as she wanted to sing her own songs.Īfter being the youngest and only female act at an Open-Mic night in Lueven, organiser Milow offered her a slot on his supporting programme, which led to warm up performances in London and Paris and major festival appearances. “I was dancin’ on the ceiling / Now I can’t feel nothin’ new.Born in the Belgian town of Leuven but raised in the nearby Leefdaal, Selah Sue learned to play the acoustic guitar aged 15 and began to compose her own songs around the same time. “I wish that I could feel something / But the pills do what they do,” she sings. But at a party with friends, the effects aren’t pleasant: it’s as if I’d lost all emotions.” The song’s lyrics, deceptively set over a pulsing, disco-like groove, express this sentiment perfectly. “The medicine has a strong stabilizing effect on me, which in normal times, I don’t find it to be a big deal, especially since I need it. “In this song I imagine myself partying on the dancefloor, but apathetic because of the pills, unable to feel anything,” she said in a press release. “Pills” shows the singer being vulnerable about her experience. Singer-songwriter Selah Sue knows the experience firsthand and opens up about it with her newest single “Pills.” If you’ve taken antidepressants or known someone who has, then you’ve probably heard that while they can be stabilizing, they can also rob you of emotions at times.
